FTP does not work using IE6sp1 on Windows 98

Hi,

I have serveral Windows 98 computers with Internet Explorer 6 sp1 that do not seem to have the FTP function available.  I cannot connect to any FTP sites.  I checked the Internet Options to look for the "Enable folder view for FTP" etc., but there simply are no FTP options listed.  On my Windows 2000 and XP machines with IE6sp1, the FTP options are there and everything works fine.  I tried removing and reinstalling IE6 on the Win 98 machines using the 'FULL' install option, but the FTP functionality still isn't there.  Any ideas?

Thanks,

Bryan

Greetings, blsniffen!
There is an option in IE to "Enable folder view for FTP sites".  From the IE toolbar, select Tools > Options > Advanced. Under Browsing, 6th line down, is the Enable option. put a check there. Click OK> You may have to restart the computer for this to take effect.

Hi,

Thanks, but I already tried that- there simply isn't a check box for 'enable folder view for FTP sites' in the options menu. I'm looking in the right place, because I see the 'enable folder view for FTP sites' option in Internet Explorer on any Windows XP or 2000 machine- just not the 98 machines.  It's the strangest thing.

blsniffen,
I have Windows 98, and its on mine. Let check the following:

Do you have all the latest patches for SP1? Download them from Windows Update site.

Perform a repair of Internet Explorer. From Control Panel select Add/Remove Programs. Scroll down to Microsoft Internet Explorer and highlight it. Click on the Add/Remove button. When the IE Tools menu comes up, select Repair. Click OK.

If the above does not work, uninstall and reinstall IE 6. Go to the same IE Tools menu and select "Restore the previous Windows configuration". This will revert you back to IE5. Now reinstall IE6 again.

Hi,

Thanks, but I tried that too- but still no FTP options or functionality.  It doesn't make any sense.
