Is there a way to create a cd image so that windows will mount and recognise as if a real cd was inserted into the drive.  Basicly a pc version of disk copy on mac os.  This would save a lot of disk swapping and I assume would run quicker from the hard drive rather than the cd rom drive?

CloneCD does this very well: http://www.elby.ch/english/products/clone_cd/
It reads cd to image file. You can have many virtual cd drives and mount images to each one. It also does cd copying.
