I need a driver that can scan, detect and able to read devices like FlashCard, SmartMedia, Digital Cards, Secure Digital Cards, etc.

Usually these devices are for USB port and the drivers are included with them, therefore only detection and able to read device file information(including sectors & clusters info.) service would suffice. Any help, comments or if applicable; another way around to the solution of the problem would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

I'm not a driver specialist, so don't expect much from me.
I have a USB printer with CompactFlash reader build-in.
If I will insert ComactFlash in it - new virtual hard drive will be created (read-only) and all file transfers are exacly the same as with normal HDD/CD
SO i guess you can scan filesystem object and check for device properties and figure out that some devices are in fact card readers. I know this is not how all the readers organized but at least this is very simple solution for most of them. (I have no idea is where will be a difference in properties of the zip drive and compactFlash reader but i hope you will find some..)

You can also scan registry (local_machine\system\controlset001\enum to list all installed drivers and somehow use this info.

good luck

Thank you for all the information. I guess I will have to search some for exact specifications about card readers, or maybe they use something similar in all devices, and that would certainly help.

Thanks again, if someone else find anything about it please do post here.
