configuring apache

i have read somethings on configuring apache but all seem not to ask my question.
please explain to me the proccedure taken we alerting the httpd.confg file.
if possible a step by step follow through.

So what do you want from apache ?
setting up a webserver i suppose.

Now, how do i restrict my server only to operate on the intranet.
Well, then you have to close the range via ipchains...
or take out your internet-connection :)
but that has nothing to do with apache...

Now i think that i am ready to build my first serious page.
What compser would you recommend for me to us.

i have download the setup files and have tried to do the install but i am not succeeding.
Please help me through the installation process.
i am using SuSe linux 7.3

i have managed to build a webpage using netscape composer but when i view the page on another workstation, the page doesnot display pictures.
help me to configure so that apache can allow for the picture files to published on the internet.
