Outlook Notes Crashes

When I try to create a new note in Outlook 2000 (C&W version), I get an error message box titled "Visual C++" with a message indicating that "a runtime error occured in C:\Progra~1\Micros~2\Office\Outlook.exe". Trying to open an existing note also crashes Outlook, unless the note is in a public folder. And to confuse things further, if I open a public note then immediately open one of my private notes, Outlook does NOT crash!
I uninstalled Office, used Eraser 2000 to clean the registry, then reinstalled Office. Problem still exists.
This is happening on a few of the 100 or so PC's in my office's system, all identical hardware and config (Dell P4 2.0GHz with 512MB RAM, WinXP Pro with SP-1, MS Office 2000 with SP-1).
Where should I look for a fix?

my suggestion would be;
start, run, "c:\program files\microsoft office\office\outlook.exe" /a

just copy and paste that in the run line including the quotation marks.

See if that helps.
