Has anyone written VB code to send text message to cell phone using a serial modem and TAP protocol?

I am trying to send a text message to a cell phone capable of receiving text messages using visual basic 6.0 and modem connected to COM1. I have the access phone number (Verizon Wireless 1-866-823-0501) and the data settings (300-19200, 7,E,1). I was wondering if anyone out there has been able to do this successfully. I found a source code example at planet-source-code.com but was unable to get it to work. I believe there are software packages out there that can do the job, but I would like to have (buy?) the source code or use an ActiveX or something similar. Any ideas or help would be appreciated.  Thanks!
