M-Power 603e200 clone / Asante 10/100 PCI ethernet card / TCP/IP won't let me connect via ethernet

Someone gave me a M-Power 603e/200MHz macintosh clone. I figured since it has a built-in Zip drive and a floppy drive, what the heck, at the very least I could use it as a floppy transfer machine.

I went and bought an Asante 10/100 PCI ethernet card to put inside it, figuring I could connect it to the internet with my cable modem. I installed the latest driver software from Asante.

This clone is running OS 7.6.1. The Asante Ethernet Options control panel sees the card in installed in slot C1. But TCP/IP won't let me connect via ethernet, the "ethernet" option does not appear in the menu. I',m, not sure what to do about this, I've spent several hours fiddling around. I managed to upgrade Open Transport from 1.1.1 to 1.1.2. Perhaps I need to put the card in a different slot? Dunno! There's three PCI slots inside which connect to the board via a nubus slot. Help!?... Thanx!

As with any machine thats obtained second hand, reinstall the system software. You never know what has been removed, corrupted, added incorrectly etc. It's virutally impossible to tech support a 2nd hand machine with dubious software history.

I think I may have already done that. But you're right, the system that came with this machine had lots of stuff removed, for what reason I cannot fathom. I guess my main question is, does the TCP/IP control panel in OS 7.6.1 normally have a "connect via ethernet" option? because the machine does not have this built-in, I stuck a card into it today. Maybe I should just upgrade the whole thing to 9.2.2?...

You probably cant update it to 9.2.2. You might get to 9.1 or 9.2.1. Yes, if you have an available ethernet port itll show a Connect Via Ethernet option.
