Hi

I am implementing Windows 2000 server folder redirection, and I have redirectedboth My Documents and Desktop to the server.

If I now log onto a client the contents of My Documents appear on the desptop as well as My Documents, is there any way of stopping this?

Thanks in advance

Arun

By any chance, did you redirect the desktop to the same location as My Documemts?  This seems to be the only way that the contents of My Documents would be shown on the desktop.  If this is the case, try directing them to different locations, or at the very least, have the desktop in a folder within My Documents.

Folder redirection of the desktop accomodates users who like to save their junk on the desktop, which BTW is a system folder.  This can cause problems.

I would recommend enabling a group policy to prevent them from saving items to their desktops if at all possible.  I would then use a group policy to redirect the My Documents folder to their home directory specified under their user profile, I usually use the H:\ drive mapping, H is for home.

If you have been able to accomplish this you may want to instruct users to drag items from their desktop to the My Documents folder on the desktop.

I think robcom99 evaluation of what is happening is acurate.
