SQL server

Hi,

If I have a dedicated server that's hosting my site, and I would like to have the sql server inside the server (right now it's on a shared sql server), what kind of software/license do I need to buy?

Thanks,

I suppose you work with IIS & M$ SQL Server and you have two servers, one runnig IIS and an other with SQL Server.
It's generally a good practice to separate web servers and database servers, so you shouldn't change anything.
Anyway, if you want to do this you don't need to buy any software or any licence.

Licence for the operating system, ie: Windows 2000 Server, which include IIS and a licence for Microsoft SQL Server.

You can run IIS and SQL Server on the same machine as long as you dont require top performance or don't expect much hits/queries. It also depends on the hardware ofcourse.

I tend to agree with Stuart,

I operate many dedicated servers that run both Win2000 and MsSQL2000 for Internet sites. The licencing for MsSQL requires us to go with per processor licences as it starts to get difficut (rather impossible) to estimate the number of licences to buy for the Internet.
