Cannot ping server from Cisco Router

I have setup a Cisco 827h ADSL router with a server directly cabled to the router.  The server has a second network card in it to connect to our LAN.  I can ping my router from the server but cannot ping the server from the router.  Because I am trying to establish VPN I need to ping this server from the router to enable the system to log.  When I connect via the internet I can ping the router, but as mentioned I cannot ping the server, even when connected to the router by telnet.  How do I get the router to enable pinging to the server?
