I am installing mysql rpm and I get an error Not enough disk space.
Mount Point space needed
/var 24 Kilobytes.
How do I do increase the size of the var directory? it does not seem obvious.

Thanks
Patrick

well it's not obvious or reasy really.

#1 check for any log files that you can delete to clear up some space - but if you are that full you may need to add more space - as in a new drive, or a new partition from another drive - usually there isn't free space left on the disk so I would check for runaway log files - how big is your /var?

df -h

will tell you

var = 1000 mb I checked various files and found /var/log/httpd/error_log.1 = 889 mb. I assume its probably best to empty this file. What is the best way to do that just delete and creta another??

Thanks

echo "" > /var/log/httpd/error_log.1

will clear the log file - you may want to look into how frequently you rotate your log files or if there is one error spamming the log file that you can fix
