Domain Rename Windows 2003
Hello,
I'm hoping someone here has done some Windows 2003 beta testing and can answer a question for me about Domain renames.
Let's say the MyCorp corporation has AC set up with the root domain as mycorp.com, and three child domains sales.mycorp.com, marketing.mycorp.com, and finance.mycorp.com
I got 2 domain controllers for the root of the tree (mycorp.com), and 2 DC for each child domain. Total of 8 DC.
Now the company changes it's name to OtherCorp corporation. So I want to change the domain name to othercorp.com
I can't do this with Windows 2000, but I can with 2003 (assumming it ever comes out).
My question is do I need to upgrade all 8 DC to 2003, or just the 2 DC at the root so that in the end I'll have the root domain name as othercorp.com, and three sub domains called sales.othercorp.com, marketing.othercorp.com, and finance.othercorp.com?
Anyone know the answer, and possibly point me to some Microsoft documentation that explains it.
Thank you,
Joe

2000 does not support this feature. thats why you have to upgrade all your domain controllers

The answer is yes, you do have to update all DC to 2003. Whether this will change for the official release of 2003 is another question.
