Notes DOM is essentially the LotusScript API, and does not run in browsers.

The WEB DOM is the one famililar from IE and Netscape.  The Notes client supports only a portion of it.  The Domino Designer allows you to fill in code for some Web DOM events that work in browsers, but not in Notes clients.  Use Notes Designer help, topic "JavaScript."  You can find it in the designer help Index under JavaScript -> Accessing Domino Objects.
