nxpcdmn process running on Domino shut down.

We run Domino 5.0.12 on our Windows 2000 Server.  Every time we need to shut down Domino we have to restart Windows also.  This appears to be because of a process running called nxpcdmn, which only stops when we restart Windows 2000 Server.

I understand this executable is used by Notes to communicate with the modem for external dial-ins.

This is a big nuisance for us and we would like to know what to do about it.

If you don't use Notes dial-in/dial-out on that server, disable the COM ports for it.  Server console command DIS PO COM1
(and DIS PO COM2, etc.)

For a list of COM ports currently enable, issue the SHO PO command.

Thanks for your responses.  I already have the tool to kill the note processes, and we do need to use the COM ports for external dial-ins.  So, any more ideas?

Sounds like you have a corrupted instalation of either the OS (causing problems unbinding fro the port at shutdown) or in Notes (causing Domino to fail to let go of the port).

Try doing a reinsatll of both.
