IE6 not opening Word/Excel docs properly

I'm experiencing a problem with IE6 where if I click a link to a word or excel file, the app launches but displays a blank page.  I can't figure out what is causing this.  I know the docs are there because if I right-click and 'save as', I can open the local file perfectly.  Any suggestions would be appreciated.  Running Win2000 and IE6 SP1.

All right here is how you can do this:

1)First open the MS-WORD application.

2) Click on "Tools" and then "Options..".

3)In the options pane click on "General" tab.

4) In the general tab click on in the lower right corner you will find "Web Options Button". Click on that

5)Click on "Files" tab in the web options pane. Check all square boxes.

6)Then click ok.

7)Exit WORD. Restart your system.

and you are done.

I hope this works.

Free Tool: Subnet Calculator

The subnet calculator helps you design networks by taking an IP address and network mask and returning information such as network, broadcast address, and host range.

Stupid question here...but how are you uploading the files? In binary or ascii mode?
If in binary, try ascii, or vice versa

Then do this:

Right click on a local MS-WORD or Excel File.

Then you should see this option "Open with.."
Click on that and chose Internet explorer program to open the local file. If this time you get the option "Open" "Save as" and "Cancel". Chose Open.
Also uncheck the square box which says "Always ask before opening this type of program" some thing like that.
This trick worked for me.

If you dont get the "Open with .." option after right clicking.
Then do this:

First just select your local file by a single mouse left click. Then hold the shift key and right click the selected file.
That should give you an "Open with ..." Option.

Thanks again, no luck with all suggestions.  Netscape opens the links fine as well.  And I believe the files are uploaded in binary, using dreamweaver.  But most of the files I open are not uploaded by me, its any document on all sites.

Then I would suggest you to uninstall Netscape and make I.E. default browser for all office documents.

Reinstall MS-Office. Seems to be a corrupted browser plugin. That shd fix it.

Reinstalling office didn't work either, I have all updates on IE6, and I can't even seem to uninstall IE6 and reinstall from scratch. Removing it from Windows Components only seems to remove access to it from the desktop.

I am running Win2000 and Office 2000.

Firstly, are doc files associated with Word? ie when you click a doc file normally, does Word open? If not, you will need to change the association.

Yes word docs are associated with word.  right clicking and saving the doc to my harddrive and then opening the file from there is fine, browsing with Netscape and opening the link from netscape is fine too, just not when i use IE6
