I was connecting an IBM Laptop on network, I changed the domain name (I'm connecting to win NT domain) but forgot to add ip addresses, when I restarted the Laptop, it asks me for password, after inputting, my password was rejected, I got massage, " domain could not be contacted". The Laptop has WIN2000 OS. Please can any one help?

Hi,

at your logon-box, the domain you are logging on to is probably also displayed (if not, click on the "options" button). Change that domain name to the name of your local workstation (i.e. change it from "DOMAIN" to "MYLAPTOP"). Then try logging on again as "administrator" with the password of the local administrator for your laptop.

Hope it helps;-)

Sincerely,
Martijn Tigchelaar.

Hi
Click cancel on logon box and delete the domain name so there is nothing on there, then restart the comp and enter the password, now you can specify the IP details and the domain name once again.

The only way to change the IP would be to log in as normal and change back to the old domain.  Then log on to the domain and change the IP and domain to whatever desired.

Setup a DHCP server with the required settings to reach the domain.

By default windows systems, are waiting to get ips from a dhcp server.. if you setup a dhcp server with a scope on the same segment as the NT 4 domain, you should pick up an ip on boot and then beable to log into the new domain.
