Problem when exporting to excel spreadsheet
We're publishing Crystal Reports 8.0 via a .Net frontend (not CR.NET). The reports are developed in CR 8.5. When a report is exported to Excel via the website, it seems that all the cells are merged into one. You can still edit each individual cell as if they were separate but if you try and sort them it throws the following message:
"Microsoft Excel found data next to your selection. Since you have not selected this data, it will not be sorted. What do you want to do?
[radio button] Expand Selection
[radio button] Continue with current selection
Sort [button] Cancel [button]"
Then regardless of which option is chosen, an excel notice pops up:
"The operation requires the merged cells to be identically sized."
Even if I change the format to number (it is set as General)and try and sort, i get the notice without the prior option.
Is it something within the Crystal Report that needs to be change?
thanks for the help.

Try changing the export type to Excel Extended rather than just Excel.

mlmcc,
i ssume you're refering to the OCX issue from CR 6 when exporting from a VB app which uses function PrintFileType ?
This is an ASP.Net app and Im exporting using function ExportFormatType.
Any other thoughts. thanks for the responce. Ill kick this question up to 50 points since it seems to be a bit harder than I had originally thought.

thanks, i havent gotten a chance to test it out yet but as soon as i do ill letcha know. i dont think Excel70Tabular is the right property but i do think that it has to do with the ExportFile Object. thanks for the help.

mlmcc,
sorry i didnt relpy on this for a while. got side tracked on another project. the ExportFile object doesnt seem to be working. i tried all the options i could find for it. I think it may have to do with the development of hte report perhaps. im not sure. Unless you object, ill be requesting to have this question deleted.
Thanks for the help.

btw, MLMCC, the only resolution I found was an upgrade to 9.0. we are emplimenting Crystal Enterprise 9.0 currently and among the export options is "Excel (Data Only)" . This works perfecting. I still am suprised I was unable to find a resolution in 8.5. Thanks for the help on this anyway.
The tabular was supposed to be essential data only. Good luck with CR 9.
One word of warning, read the license agreement very carefully it has some huge snags in it.

Yeah the tabular didnt seem to work and i was confused by that as well. Thats what made me think it wasnt a "data only" issue but I couldnt find any other reason. actually we're going to Crystal Enterprise 9.0 so that kinda resolves all sorts of problems. We have 50 licenses and since Enterprise has about 10 of its own server components processing is lightening fast. We're doing clustering and everything, im pretty excited, i think that classifies me as a dork but whatever. Ill post some points for you on for the help on this question though. thanks again.

Mnye/Pasha,
A Question regarding the problem you faced for exporting.By using the data only option in CR 9.0 how are u able to sort the report in excel coz in my case the headers are also exported and those are repeated in the exported excel fille.Hence sorting makes the data go haywire. Please help.
