There is some IDEs that use gcc for their compile and link operations.
for example :
"rhdie" is a Turbo C++ like IDE.
"setedit" is another one.

If you have X windows (graphical system) you can use "KDevelop". It is an IDE for like Visual C++ IDE.(It uses gcc too) (It can generate makefile for you)

"Kylix" is another choice for you. It is a new produce from Borland for C++ Builder and Delphi.

examine them
Enjoy them

How to use gcc:
Start Emacs write
  #include <stdio.h>

  int main() {
     printf("Hello World\n");
     return 0;
  }

save to a file called helloworld.c

compile:
gcc -o helloworld helloworld.c
