Invoke a scanner

Is there any way to invoke a scanner residing in a remote place from my application ?
Basically i will hv a button "Scanner" in my page . As soon as the button si clicked, the scanner at the remote place should be invoked?
ARe there any apis for the same?

I don't believe you can do this using JSP.  you would have to be in an intranet environment and use either WSH or ActiveX.

Can you give me extra info as how to use ActiveX or WSH for this purpose

I haven't been able to find anything.  You maybe be better off asking this in the ASP or .NET topic areas.
