Netscape mail window invisible

I use Netscape [v 7.0] to read my mail on a Mac G4 running Jaguar+.  I was reading an email with attached pictures. I double clicked on the email and it opened in a separate window. I clicked again and it vanished along with the email window. Since then I have not been able to get the email window back. I can get the netscape navigator window, but not mail. Clicking on the mail button in the navigator window makes Netscape think it is bringing mail up and to the front, but there is nothing there - no window. It shows up on the list of windows under the windo menu. I can use the Window menu to bring the invisble mail window to the front. I can use the menu commands to access all the features except to see the email and read it. But I cannot make the mail window visible.

I reinstalled Netscape 7 but there was no difference. I restarted OSX - no difference. I checked and unchecked menu items and preferences - no difference.

How do I get it back. I cannot read my mail without it. [I do not care for the other mail programs - as bad as Netscape and netscape mail is - it is the one I want to use for now].

Thanks for the help.

Reinstalling Netscape wont reset its preferences. Delete your profile files in your user/library/ folder. Also delete any netscape preferences files in your preferences folder. Keep backups of these files since they contain your mail database.

So far it seems to work if I implemented your solution correctly. I wound up deleting the whole Mozilla user file from  the user/library folder after backing it up. I started Netscape and created the new user, set preferences and then quit. I then transfered selected saved files back into the new user preferences like bookmarks, cookies, mail, abook [which I assume is the address book]. Started Netscape and all "seems" well.

Thanks for the rapid response.

I accept the above solution as correct and useful. Collect your points and thanks again
