Build solution will only compile files that have changed since last compile. Rebuild solution will first clean the intermediate files and then recompile all the source files.

Excellent answer.

Is what you just said in the help somewhere?  Can you tell me where?

I don't know if its in help or not. I stated the answer from my personal experience. But I am pretty sure that it is there somewhere in Visual Studio documentation.

Yep... Most of the time you will use build. Especiall in huge projects. Rebuild is only used when there were changes to bunch of projects and allother assemblies need to be relinked to updated libs.
