sql server domain name change

If the domain name of a sql server installation is changed, would there be
any effect on the clients that access that server? Are there any precautions
to be taken before changing the domain?

Assuming the machine name stays the same, and the clients do not migrate with the server, I don't think you should have any trouble (although this depends on a zillion things and the ONLY way is to test). Things to anticipate:

- Clients will no longer be able to browse to the SQL Server using SQLDMO (which only looks in its own domain)

- Anticipate longer connection times. This is purely empirical, so again, please, save yourself and test. Too much depends on what the application does.
