DFS share not appearing in File Open dialog

I have a DFS share called 'data' that appears in the Active Directory, it can be accessed through explorer but cannot be seen when using the Windows file open dialog in any applications, Word, Excel, Notepad etc.
How can I force this to display ?

Just curious and since no one has responded yet; Why are you using DFS?  If properly configured the apps should see the share if you browse to it going to network neighborhood from within the file open dialog.  You should also see it if you have a drive mapped to it.

I have a number of sites that individually have file servers, we are using DFS to enable staff at each site to centrally access all the file servers. I can get to the DFS through network places and also map drives (so I know the DFS root is advertising correctly), however in a file open dialog I don't want people to have to drill down through my network place sto find files, I want the network share icon to be displayed inb the dialog along with my docs etc...

I agree, however the whole point of this is to remove all user drive mappings and allow them data access by share points.
Mike.. that clarifies the question.  I have a feeling your going to be stuck with mapping a drive letter.  Even if the newer MS apps come with support for share points, the legacy and third party apps will not support what you want to do.   Your one of the few I have talked to that are using DFS for waht it was actualy made for, I have never been a big fan of it (It's not one of Microsofts better implementations.)
This question is still open and getting old. If any of the comment(s) above helped you please accept it as an answer or split the points who ever helped you in this question. Your attention in finalising this question is very much appreciated. Thanks in advance,
