asked on
compatibility of applications among linux distributions
Can, say, KDE for Red Hat be installed on Free Bsd? or other linux distributions?
I think the answer is Yes. Why are you asking this?
That is not correct FreeBSD probably need the linux emulatro for running KDE unchanged from the Linux box. Running a Linux program in another Linux box is unproblematic as long as all the needed libraries are there.

The reason: I am thinking of buying BSD CD(s). There are different versions. One is just 1 CD, others more than one. I noticed the rest of the CDs are just for KDE, Gnome which I already have in my Red Hat. So why buy what I already have, if Kde on Red Hat CD can also be installed onto BSD?

The short answer is NO, Linux application will not run on BSD. Even there's problem on different distribution of linux, it can work 90% of time with extra work.
For your concern of cost, you can download BSD, Linux CD iso from some ftp site for free, and burn it. Suggest you try http://public.planetmirror.com/pub/.
Or you want it in CD format? go to http://www.cheapbytes.com/. It's really cheap.

What about among different versions of BSD? Eg. Can the application programs on Net BSD CD be installed on Free BSD system?
