You may just want to get a new drive. New 52X CDRW's are running around $50.00 or so nowadays. But some things you can try, are like making sure the cables are plugged in good. Try some original Media? Or different brand CDR's? If it can't read originals then something is definitely wrong.
Buy a CDCleaner and clear the lens. Maybe it's just a dusty lens. Or it might be dead.

You can always try to unmount your CD drive, open it and with a soft cotton stick, clean the lenses.
Close it and see .......Has worked for me before

Make sure your CD Drive is set as a slave. Sometimes out of the box the pin is in the Cable select, or even master. Ensure that your thing is set as a slave, and all your connections are set.
Try reading a regular music CD first, sometimes blank CD-R or CD-RW's aren't always readable depending on quality and brand. It you can get it to play a regular CD, then you know you have everything connected right, incuding the audio out cable.
Good Luck.

Hi, I had this problem too. I had a new CDRW Teac 48x and after some time rised the same problem as yours. I just put it back to the shop I bought it and they have changed it for the same type. And now it works. Good Luck!
