HELP! Run-Time error '3170': Couldn't find installable ISAM.

Hello,

The program I'm working on right now is a VB program that accesses a Microsoft Access database. This program must be distributed among all the computers in labe within the campuses of the college I'm attending. This application is finished but does not work. There is one error when accessing the Access DB that comes up.

Run-Time error '3170': Couldn't find installable ISAM.

This program has to run on computers that are independent of having visual basic and microsoft access installed on them. From what I looked up on the internet I have discovered that it has to do with Microsoft access. But I need a solution thats friendly to the school's computers as these computers are old and I cant download and install VB's SP5 on each computer as visual basic is not to be installed on the computer in these labs, same with MS Access. There is a program one these computers that does use an Access file and has no problem. This program is very similar to the one I made. But it works and mine doesn't.

Has anybody had this error before in a visual basic program that accessed a MS Access DB?

Does anybody know how to fix this without installing anything? most of the solutions I've seen involve me installing patches that I cant install on all the computers here.

Thank you for your help and sorry about the long post.

Hi anela!
Can you provide more information please?
Such as your Connection string, Access version.
If it is text files then problem can be in your connection string. I've had the same problem before several times. There are various possible causes.

Here are some articles

I think you're having an installation error particularly drivers needed for your app to access the msaccess db.  Did you include MDAC_TYP.EXE in your package? You may also run this separately.  You can also find the latest version here:
