IBM Thinkpad 600 Cooling Fan Error 192 on boot.

Hello,
I have aquired a laptop that had the cooling fan replaced recently and so has the cmos battery, and the boot screen will say a error 192. When you test the systemboard, it gives you
DEV  001
ERr     96
FRU 3810
I have researched on the internet and have not yet found a solution.

Thanks,

i do not really know if the fan was put in correctly, my brother put it in and said he did it two more times or so and made sure all the cable were connected, but the computer still registers the error. any help would be thankful.

I found that the wiring inside the fan housing was not properly placed and was preventing the fan from turning.  After moving the wires everything worked fine.
We've run into this problem on a number of different Thinkpad 600. Sometimes you can still get the machine to boot to your OS, sporadically, some machines it will not boot past the error screen.

Often, it's just the CMOS battery needing replacement, which is located in the memory compartment (look for the white plug and wires, then just pull the battery out -- CR2025) . Even with the bad systemboard test result, replacing the battery tends to be the solution.

The fan is next to check. Annoying to get to, but if it's been damaged, not spinning, or improperly installed (e.g. wires in the way, etc) this can be remedied by adjustment or replacement -- be sure to get the right replacement model.

Finally, systemboard. Fun for all...
