Hi all,

I'm new to linux. i installed red hat linux 9 in my P-iv machine. it has win98, 2000 and linux. when i booted it in linux it took some time to mount a disk partition and anyway it booted with no errors. all the services were runing. it happened for some times.

i wanted to solve that problem. so when linux is loaded in graphycal mode i used fsdk to fix the file system. it gave a warning, but i proceeded.

after that i rebooted the machine. it booted but 3 servises failed at startup - i don't remember all of them but one of them is sendmail. anyway it gave the login window

when i try to login as root it gives some error masseges and don't allow to login as root, but can login as other user. but can't start the services failed at start up.

i think root user has been damaged.

somebody pls tell me a way to correct it. and tell me how to use fsdk without mounting partition, ie i want to know how to start linux to that repair mode.
