Compile Error In Hidden Module: AutoExecNew

I'm running Windows XP with Office XP installed.  Up until recently everything was running smoothly.  Then yesterday I installed MS Visio 2000 Enterprise Edition.

Now whenever I open Excel, Word or even Outlook, I get a box up that tries to install 'office' components.  Once it's run its course I am left with the error message:

'Compile Error In Hidden Module: AutoExecNew'.

If I click 'OK' then the application opens fine and I can go about doing what I want without any problem.  It's just annoying to have to see this error every time I open an Office application!!

Also, when you exit either Word, Excel or Outlook you this error:

'Compile Error In Hidden Module: AutoExit'

I've looked on Microsoft's Website and all it lists is something about Adobe Acrobat and Norton Antivirus being installed.  Well firstly I have Acrobat Installed, and I have downloaded the current patch it reccomends to stop this from happening, yet I still get the same error, and the fact that I only got this problem after I installed Visio leads me to believe its nothing to do with Adobe Acrobat.  Secondly, I do not have, nor have I ever, had Norton Antivirus installed.  We use Sophos.

Answers on a postcard...

Cheers, that seems to have worked!!! I have deleted the files in there... and hey presto!
Did you ever find a solution to this?  I'm having the same issue.

Yeah, I followed the instructions that Steiner provided and it seemed to work.
I'm having the 'AutoExecNew' problem in Excel.  I've followed Steiner's directions to the opening of opening the VBA editor and locating the offending Adobe project...and it is password protected as he suggested.  Question:  How do I delete it?  No matter how I select it, I am prompted for a password... and I see no delete options anywhere....
I'm having the same problem.  I can't delete it either.  I'm prompted for a password every time.
Answer:  I played around with it some more and the solution is: 1) Exit out of Excel/VBA editor  2) search for  PDFMaker.xla on your local drive including subfolders, AND before you "start" the search indicate that you want to also search hidden files (in XP notably).  The files are hidden.  3)  In my case there were 4 copies of pdfmaker.xla strewn about the place and I deleted them all and Excel works fine
Great job everybody!  It work, thanks for the help.
I deleted only the PDFMaker-files in Startup -directory. It helped.
Thanks for the help guys this posting helped me tremendously
Thank you!  PDFMaker.xla in the ./XLStart folder of Excel seemed to be the offending culprit.
Just wanted to let eveyone know that the solution that JohnWright suggested works great.
Also, thanks goes out to Expert Exchange for creating this wonderfull website with all its resources.
Can you give points for a string you did not start? Regardless thanks John Wright and thanks Experts Exchange. I searched on the error - came directly to this string - and fixed the problem in less than 5 minutes.
Thank you also, had the same problem, fixed with in 3minutes! thanks!
Hooray, I had this problem also!  What a quick fix, thank you so much!
Hops
Me the same ! many thanks !
Thanks for the fixes guys your the best.

Damien
after checking many options and possibiltys, i got the answer off one of the technicians, it works but is diffrent from the other answers above.....
,
what we had to do was, from add remove programs, click on the version of office thats installed....then choose the "change" option.
next choose "add or remove features". choose the"advanced customisation of applications" choose next,
in this screen left click at the top "microsoft office" folder and choose the "run all from my computer" option, then hit update
this solution worked for me...

Damien
Took me a bit to figure out what you ment, Steiner. Im a novice in VBA. But, yeppers! It worked great! Thanks!
In my case on Excel 2003, copying MSOUTL.OLB & MSWORD.OLB from a working PC (C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office 11\) made it work.
