LPT1 port?
Hi all,

I have a network xerox mutlifunction copier machine(print, fax, scan). When I configure my PC printer port to use "LTP1" to print, it will print out trash. However when I use a network cable everything work well. So I use another computer to do a test using "LPT1" as the printer port, it print out perfectly.

May I know what causes the first PC to print out trash when using "LPT1" as the printer port? And any solution to it?

Thanks!

PS: Both PC run on Win98.

Yes using the same cable on both PC and same driver. At first thought it might be driver or cable problem so try to use a updated ver driver for the PC having problem but make no different.

The 2 PC is about 3 yrs old regarding which AT model, I'm not sure need to check it out. Beside changing the port is there any other way? Someone did suggest to me to format the PC and another mentioned it might be because the "LPT1" is not a printer port.

So can I said it is because of the parallel port that causes the problem?

Thanks!

Try changing the parallel port mode in the bios to something different.  For example ECC?  if i remember correctly.   Try the different modes, this sometimes does the trick.

You also might want to try changing the spool setting from EMF to RAW, or vice versa. You can also try printing direct to the printer, and printer after the last page is spooled. Test it after changing each setting. To change these settings. Goto Start -> settings -> printers -> right click on your printer icon -> click properties -> click on the details tab -> now click on the spool settings button, that is where you can change the settings I talked about. Of course...these directions are assuming your using Win 95/98.

What operating system are you running?

Do you have any other printer drivers installed on the computer that's causing the problem? If so, try switching them to something other than LPT1 (such as FILE), since their port monitors may be conflicting with the Xerox driver.

By the way, never mind about my question about the OS. I just saw that it's 98. :)

check in your system>device manager to see what the LPT1 port is called.
If it is called "HP printer port"or "epson printer port", for example, your standard printer port driver has been replaced with a custom one.
to cure this, delete the port, and reboot. windows will then install a fresh parallel port driver.

the Bios route may also work.
reboot, hold down delete, and int the bios settings, check the parallel printer port settings. There is a choice between ECP, EPP(sometimes 2 different versions of this), and standard.
Try setting it to standard first, but I think most xerox will only work with EPP.

Many windows print drivers only send EMF, no matter what you set in spool settings :(

what model of MFP is it?

He may need to tap the F1 or F2 key instead of tapping the Delete key to get into his BIOS.

What about other printer drivers? Are any installed?

To thoffman : There isn't any other printer driver install but my adobe acrobat is use LTP1 as a port.

Thanks!

I haven't heard of Acrobat interfering with a driver, but it could happen. Have you tried switching the port of Acrobat to something like FILE, then rebooting?

A printer is a peripheral which makes a persistent human readable representation of graphics or text on paper or similar physical media. Traditional printers are being used more for special purposes, like printing photographs or artwork, and are no longer a must-have peripheral; 3D printing has become an area of intense interest, allowing the creation of physical objects. An image scanner is a device that optically scans images, printed text, handwriting, or an object, and converts it to a digital image. Hand-held scanners, where the device is moved by hand, have evolved from text scanning "wands" to 3D scanners used for industrial design, reverse engineering, test and measurement, orthotics, gaming and other applications.
