MAPIInitialize() call failed on Windows 2000

I am trying to use extended MAPI on a client without Exchange Server Provider, or even Outlook client.
When I call MAPInitialize(), it returns E_FAIL. I am not calling it from DllMain thread, but from a different thread.

I begin to wonder if it's possible to do it without Exchange or Outlook.

Thanks very much for your help,

Steven

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

No, since the necessary libraries are not installed.

Thanks.

If I install Outlook, can it work?

Sure. There are actually a number of MS apps that install MAPI, like Word, Access and others.

Thanks again.

I actually installed Platform SDK. Does this help? Maybe I didn't register certain libs.

No, it does not install the necessary binaries, it just comes with the .lib and .h files.
