Netgear RT314, Router DNS Issue.

Hello, I am using a netgear RT314 connected to a cable modem (dynamic ip). Here is my issue, some times after the router has been on for an extended period of time 12+ hours, when I try to resolve an IP the router is having issues with it. It wont resolve. But if I manually enter the DNS servers to use into my NIC Cards Properties under XP, it will resolve fine, and connect fine. It just seems that the router is having trouble resolving ips.

Your router should have a Table to enter DNS entries manually
probably on the DHCP tab, you do not have to set them, but if you don't
the router will not pass the DNS information to your PC. If you have the
routers IP address as he DNS server you can use that but put it third in the
list. Some of the manuals for the cheap routers say to do this, it isn't proper.

I imagine the 12+ hours is your ISP disconnecting you, and the router
disconnecting you. When you try to resolve an IP address there is no DNS info
after you type it in there is DNS info and everything works.

If the netgear doesn't allow you to enter DNS server adds into it then just
manually put them in your settings, you can still enter DNS servers using DHCP.

HoweverComma: That is currently what I am doing, my router doesnt allow for manual DNS server entry unless I enter all the other information along with it, since my ISP is dynamic IP, I cant enter it, so I enter the DNS information into the computers settings, but the DNS servers should be recieved from the DCHP server.

On the page where you check the box to enable the DNCP server
there are 2 boxes for DNS servers. These are where you should
make the entries. It will be in the LAN setup menu, on the IP Tab.
