sygate personal firewall pro and norton system utilities 2002

When sending email with the firewall set to Normal, the system displays that Norton is scanning outgoing email and then freezes.  I have to use the button to shut down.

If I turn the firewall off, the mail sends properly, scanning it with the Norton.  

In the allowed applications, Norton Antivirus Agent is set to allow.   Currently, I think it is the only thing from system works in the firewall application.

Outlook Express is set to allow.

My Norton is set to scan incoming and outgoing email.   I have the autoprotect set to "disabled", but I see when I do ctrl-alt-del that NPROTECT.exe is running.   I actually did put an advanced rule in to allow this nprotect.exe into sygate, but it did not do anything to help.  Something is not right!  What should I do?

What versions are you running?  

When anything goes through the firewall - you should be queried if there is a problem and it usually gives you some choices on a popup menu.  Most Norton programs allow you to check a box that says something like "Don't show me this again" -  but these function can be turned back on in the configuration settings, I believe.  Get this working if it is diabled and then delete the firewall rules for your email application from the firewall list.  Now, with the firewall enabled, when you send email, it should ask what you want to do with this application request.  And, you can set it to what you desire.
