3rd Party Vendor Radeon 9700-9800 PRO

Whats the difference between a Radeon made by ATi and one made by a 3rd party vendor like Crucial, Hercules, Abit, Sapphire, ect..

Are they the samething?  Are they better or worse than the ATi made cards.  Why does ATi have these vendors use their chips and compete against them in the Radeon market?  Thanks

Often I see the third party Radeons cheaper.  Does that mean cheaper quality?  How do they differ on benchmarks, quality, and hardware?

also how do you tell the difference between a radeon 9700 and a radeon 9700pro by looking at the card.  does it actually print the type on the card?

Are they the samething?     Yes, and no.  Sometimes ATI makes them for the company concerened.  Other times the company buys the ATI chips and the plans and makes the cards themselves.  In these cases the company may try and add value to the card by adding extra features or software.  In most cases the driver supplied by ATI will work with all cards that sue the chip.

Are they better or worse than the ATi made cards?    Depends, sometimes they are, sometimes they aren't.

Why does ATi have these vendors use their chips and compete against them in the Radeon market?    Easy, money.  You have to sell them somehow.

How do they differ on benchmarks, quality, and hardware?    Go read reviews on the review sites.  Sometimes there are no differences, sometimes there are.  Quality isn't generally reviewed, but you'll find user sites that'll scream if a batch of cards start breaking down or misperforming.

first : The difference between the Radeon made by ATI and one made by a 3rd party , is the quality of the made card and sometimes clock speeds
ATI has specific reference design for those 3rd party that they must manifacture the card on its basis , but sometimes these 3rd parties exceed that reference design by adding some bigger and better heatsink for overclockers , heatsinks for memory ships , or bigger heatsinks with no fans for silent PCs , sometimes they provide faster memory models or overclocked core speeds , or some tweaked driver with better performance ( slight ) or that can overclock the card when u play game or though
on the other hand , the 3rd party card might be the opposite , with bad heatsink , slower memory models , not going completely with the standard ATI reference design , ...etc especially of unknown or not popular companies
personally I would recomend a Hercules or Sapphire card over the same card made by ATI
second : Why do ATI have these vendors ? I don`t know , company policy
third : wether the Card is a Radeon 9700 or 9700pro , it is printed on the packet that the card came in , otherwise ( u don`t have the carton the card came in , the card is OEM ) u have to check in ur system with some system check utility ( ex: sisoft sandra , HWinfo , Dr.Hardware , ...etc ) to give u wether it is pro or non pro
