Windows XP Wireless Network Distance?

Last Modified: 2013-11-09
I have a Wireless network set up with a Linksys Broadband Router and a Cable Modem. A few people on the network have laptops with the Linksys Wireless Network Adapter. My question is, what is the distance they can be before they aren't on the network? We bought 2 small houses and are using them for our small offices (hehe) and they are right across the street from each other. How come when they go into the one office where the router is not, they can't be on the network, but when they are in the same house, they are on the network? And what is the distance limits or something?

Also any suggestions on what I would need to make it so they are on the network?
