How to start GPRS

Hi All,

good day! i have a gsm/gprs modem connected on my pc com1 serial port. i'm about to develop a project using this gprs modem, but my problem is how to start with it. Anybody who can help me to set up this modem? how would i know if it's already ok for development? what are the things i need to know to start with this project.

Thank you simon for your detailed information, i found something interesting with this project and i hope you could still guide me. I have follow up questions:

a. do i need to install driver for this modem? i'm using MAESTRO 100 GSM/GPRS 900/1800 modem in windows 2000
professional platform.
b. can i use hyperterminal for the basic then proceed to programming afterward?
c. what is APN something to do with the GPRS?
d. GPRS network provider? is there a difference with the internet provider?

a) standard windows driver should be fine.
b) yes
c) APN is the Access Point Name, and will be given to you by your network provider.
d) Yes, GPRS network is your GSM network provider

You don't need physical phone lines, just an antenna! - and the SIM card.

Hi,

How can i get the IP address of a remote device using hyperterminal? if the remote device is computer, do i need to attach gprs modem on that pc? and how this remote computer connected to my pc? pls.....
