I am trying to connect two XP PCs.Here are the steps so far:

I have:

1)installed two 10/100 ethernet cards, one in each machine.
2)plugged a crossover cat5e and connected the two cards.
3)given a unique name to each machine and made them members of the same workgroup.
4)assigned these IP addresses 10.0.0.1 and 10.0.0.2 and subnet mask 255.255.255.0.

If i am not mistaken, after these steps I should be able to see both the pcs in "View workgroup computers" at "My Network Places".Well,I am not! I cannot ping each other. There is no communication between the two PCs,not a single bit! However the connection has been established at 100 Mbps...Am I doing something wrong?
Can someone tell me what is the problem?
Thank you in advance.
