DTS to Oracle fails because of character set.

I use a DTS package to move data from SQL Server to Oracle.  On my development server it works fine.  SQL Server 2000 has collation set to SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS and Oracle 9i has WE8MSWIN1252 character set.  The data I am moving is personal information from countries in Asia and Europe.  When I attempt to move the same data in a production evironment, DTS reports an oracle error - ORA-01401 inserted value too large for column.  Production has SQL Server 2000 the same, but Oracle 8i has the UTF8 character set.  What can I do on SQL Server side (or orcl side) to successfully transfer this data?  The character sets cannot be switched.  The tables in dev and prod are identical.  The data being moved is identical.
