100 quick and easy points to the first person who can provide a direct link to a document that translates the Family/Model/Stepping numbers to their equivalent in English that end-users can understand.  (e.g. Family 6 Model 8 Stepping 6 = Pentium II 300Mhz)

Sorry Zefiro, but the simple truth of this is there isn't one.

You would think somebody would have compiled one, but it just doesn't exist.

Even intel doesn't have one available, and neither does AMD.  I've talked to reps at both companies and there is no link.

I've known a few people (including myself) who've undertaken the task of creating such a list, and everybody who's done this has dropped it due to the massive size of the undertaking.  It is really quite a huge project.

Not really, it just shows you the information in the cpuid and the serial# re: the intel P4's.  No chart.  

There really is nothing out there.

The only way, unfortunately, to get this is to get the cpuid of each and every cpu out there. . .   that's just WAY too much testing for most people to want to do, even if you could get a hold of every cpu of every model / core, etc.

Alberta, a couple years ago I remember finding a chart on Intel, but the few occasions I've had need of since, I've had no luck.  You get the points, but. . .

I'll throw another 100 on if you can tell me what a Fam 6 Model 8 Step 6 equates to.  (I know, I know, dangling participle)

it can be several things zefiro, that's the problem.

I can tell you for sure it can be a celeron FCPGA or a PIII coppermine. Of different speeds.  There is NO one answer to the question.

The stepping 8 usually seems to be a 133 FSB for Copper mines. Fam 6 with stepping 6 tells me its a P3 running at between 750 - 866 MHz Mostly its 866MHz though
