How to set up a Virtual Private Network (VPN)?

Hi there

im a windows 98 user and i wish to setup a vpn connection to my intranet at work  (which is a raq3) from home.  What  is the best way to approach this???  Im not familiar with VPNs at all.  Can someone shed some light? or help me in any way?
