Accpac Simply Accounting error "Failure Decompressing Data"

For some unknown reason I can perform a backup using simply accountings backup option but not a restore. The backup completes successfully however when the data is restored I receive the following error "Failure decompressing data". I tried backing up to floppy and local disk. A new computer was purchased so I installed Simply and the tax update so the both versions and up to date and the same. I copied the backup file over the network onto the new computer and again the restore failed. The older computer was running win98 and the new windows XP Pro.
Both computers have been scanned for viruses and are clean. I ended up copying the data to the new computer and just opening the database instead of restoring. This worked fine however the user still needs to be able to perform a backup and restore using the accpac functions. I have compacted the database but restore still doesn't work.
