Import messages and accounts into outlook after clean install

My installation of win2k has gone crazy so I have made a clean install on a new partition and am going through the task of re-installing all my apps. I have installed office 2000 and am having some problems getting outlook to its previouse state i.e. getting all my messages and accounts back. (Just to be clear I still have the old installation of outlook with all its accociated files on the other partition).

After replacing the outlook.pst file with the one from my other installation I find that although it has imported my messages and folders, it has not imported my email accounts.

Can anyone tell me the best way to get my new installation of outlook set up exactly the same as the old one? I'm sure I've done this before without problems but I've obviously forgotten something.

Thanks!

Hi Philipk,

It can be done, the information you are looking for is in an *.iaf file. Just look for it under document & settings/username of your old partition and import it in your new outlook. Watch out as it may create an other .pst, point it back to the proper one afterward if it does.

Cheers,
Laurence.

I copied the old outlook.pst to C:\Documents and Settings\Mr W the G\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook opened the personal folder and have set it to deliver pop3 mail to that folder. I have deleted the folder that outlook created when first I installed it.

I've done an export of the mail accounts from my old installation of outlook and imported them without any problems.

Finally I need to import my rules. I have got halfway i.e. copied the .rlz file across, but the rules don't seem to know where to file the mail. e.g. the instruction "move to folder 'phils mail' " has changed to "move to specified folder". I think this is because it is pointing to the old location which I suppose has moved.

How can I resolve this?

Thanks!
