Windows doesn't recognize the CD while using the SFC command

I have seen this before but don't know if anyone knows of a resolve or what the problem is but when i run the command
"SFC /SCANNOW" the system prompts me for the Windows CD when it is already in the CDROM.

This is a Dell laptop and the CD i am using is the one that came with it which looks identical to the Windows XP CD.

First, make sure if it is a Windows XP CD and not the restore CDs usually provided by OEMs. Secondly, you may need to press Retry many times till SFC scannow completes.

If this does not help:

Copy the contents of the I386 folder from your XP CD to your hard drive.
Click Start/Run/Regedit.
Go to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion
In the right pane, change SourcePath to reflect your settings.
NOTE:  Do not include I386 in the path.

Restart Windows and run "SFC /Scannow" again.
