*** Cleanup Volunteers Needed (Linux Programming)***

Linux Programming experts,

At the moment I write this we have 655  open questions in this area and the last ones are from August 2000. So it is high time to close all these old questions.

So we search experts which  :
- are  experts in this area just to be sure you are familiar with the questions you will have to close
- are active in the last 3 months - you can be great expert but if in the last 3 months you have at all 10 comments that means you have no time...
- have some time and want to help.

If you fit in the above, please read:

http://www.experts-exchange.com/help/cleanup.jsp

If after reading it, you are still interested in helping please post here and I will assign you a range to work on.
If you have any questions, please ask.

Thank you very much for the help.

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Hi AnnieMod,

I am willing to help here too but
1. my progress here will be a lot more slow as C TA takes up most of my time (apart from my job) (5-25 questions a week/fortnight is what you can expect)
2. I am likely to skip some questions as Linux programming TA receives vast range of questions and I am not familiar with all of them
3. I want these points this time :p

If this is acceptable, let me know

give me a range right now ... I'll start soon (whenever tired of C, I'll switch to linux prog.)

Hi, AnnieMod,

Please assign me a range for cleanup in Linux Programming. The first half of 2001 might be a suitable place for me to start, 59 questions.

AnnieMod,

I've completed the range Jan-May 2001. Please assign me a new range (slightly larger, please) when you can.

jmcgOwnerCommented:
I was checking back here to see what range you had assigned me and it looks like I goofed. I did Aug-Sep 2002 when I was supposed to be doing Aug-Sep 2001. (One of my remaining complaints about the FastCat tool is that it uses dates without years as filenames for working lists.) I apologize for my mistake and will be double careful in the future. I'll also go back and do the ones I missed before asking for more.

I have completed the range June 2001 to May 2002 and, as mentioned, August and September of 2002. Please assign me a new range when you get a chance.

Anniemod,

I've completed the range June - December 2002. Please assign me a new range when you get a chance.

Anniemod,

I was planning to complete that range but unfortunately I have not been able to even start with it. Seems I would not be able to do any cleanup till Jan second week. Please reassign the range.

Thanks

AnnieMod,

Would you like me to take care of the year 2000 questions before beginning work on 2003?
0
jmcgOwnerCommented:
AnnieMod,

Year 2000 is completed. I'll move on to the Jan-Feb 2003 assigned range next.

Hi AnnieMod,

I have completed range Jan-Feb 2003. Please assign me a new range when you get a chance.

jmcgOwnerCommented:
Yep, I'm afraid I missed out on the opportunity to help hunt down change-of-year date bugs in FastCat. But the work of cleanup will go on....
0
jmcgOwnerCommented:
BooMod says a new release of FastCAT with the new date policies instilled in it will be out "real soon now". I'm waiting for that before finishing my current range here in Linux Programming.

AnnieMod,

I completed the range Mar-May 2003 a few days ago. I'll take another range here when you have a chance to assign me a new one.
0
jmcgOwnerCommented:
Oh, dear, I see a month has already gone by since you assigned me a range here. I knew about it, of course, but I've only now been able to get back to using FastCAT. Sorry for the delay, and lack of communicating status, but I'll begin plugging away at this range now.

AnnieMod,

Can we close this Q? It just came up on Cleanup.

I've completed (finally!) the range June- October 2003.

Please let me know if I should continue to clean this TA on the same basis as the other TAs I'm working in.

I'll keep on working this area until further notice.

Thanks.

Hi, Annie,

My email forwarding wasn't working for a few days and I'm just now seeing your message.

I certainly won't turn down qualified help! On the other hand, I saw the end in sight here and had been preparing a list of other areas where it looked like I might volunteer.
0
jmcgOwnerCommented:
"End" in the sense that the backlog is cleared away. Staying current, after that, is pretty easy.

I'll obviously have to make a new list. CGI was at the top of my earlier list but it now appears to be in better shape than Linux Programming!

I still work mostly in month-by-month chunks. If I haven't seen that you've assigned somebody else to clean up here, I'll continue with Mar-Apr 2004. If you find someone to help here, please assign me a range, too, so we don't get in each others' way.

Thanks.

Got it. I saw that Sunnycoder was active in Unix Programming.

Is someone else going to be assigned May-July?

I've completed Jan-Apr and Aug-current. At this particular moment I need to go back to C and Perl for a while, since I'm afraid I neglected them somewhat during September. But once they're current again, I'll be looking to come back here and finish May-July if nobody else is assigned.

Thanks.
0
jmcgOwnerCommented:
Not a problem, of course. I'll get to May-July here in a little while.
0
jmcgOwnerCommented:
Already started.

Aside from a small handful of questions that were pinged, which I'll handle a few days from now, Linux Programming topic will be CURRENT once the last couple of cleanup lists I posted are processed.
