*** Cleanup volunteers needed (PHP) ***

PHP experts,

At the moment I write this message, we have 1307 open questions in this area and the oldest ones are from August 2001. So it is high time to close all these old questions.

So we search experts that:
- experts in this area just to be sure you are familiar with the questions you will have to close
- active in the last 3 months - you can be great expert but if in the last 3 months you have at all 10 comments that means you have no time...
- have some time and want to help.

If you fit in the above, please read:

https://www.experts-exchange.com/help.jsp#hs7

If after reading it, you are still interested in helping please post here and I will assign you a range to work on.
If you have any questions, please ask.

Thank you very much for the help.

AnnieMod, I still have in my todo half of the range assigned to me in PHP and Databases.
You assigned me 01.1.2003 - 28.2.2003, and i cleaned up 01.1.2003 - 31.1.2003. I've found out that the cleanup job is very tough if you want to do it well..
I will complete my assigned range within 2 days.

If you wish to get more response, why dont you make the point value higher?
I think making it a 500-point question is a good idea anyway.  It gets more people to read it.  Play on our greedy natures ;-)

I totally agree with Annie, this should be a 0 points question :-)
I dont think so, because if that were true, there should not be a point system involved with this site, no points equals no interest (or 20 points).

What AnnieMod has asked isnt as easy as just answering a question, it takes time and mainly effort, in which those points make it worth while.

Think about it.

I have to say that it wouldn't be bad to have some kind of recognizement for the cleanup work done.. not particularly for me that i spent only an hour so far, but for those that spend much more time in doing that.

I was also wondering (not really related to the original topic), why don't you elect moderators for each area? It would decrease your work load, and people (me) would that for free, only for having "moderator" written in my details page :-)
For obvious reasons the moderator shouldn't have an experts points score for the area he is moderating... Just thoughts, I hope you'll delete this thread later :-)
Nothing is free in this world.......

> You want to help the area - do it as a cleanup Volunteer... I expected your range to be already finished and you to be at the middle of your second range :)) It looks like you have no time - ok - then why you want more work? :))

Good point.. you are right.. but my cleanup is very good, and you know, very good things takes more time...
joking :-) i agree stopping this conversation (here).
No !

                                             "HERE"
AnnieMod FYI I have broken my wrist. Thats why there has been no updates from me.
Will be trying to do some more soon now.

AnnieMod, I am glad someone is actually enforcing the cleanup since I had stopped using EE because of this fact.  Many members do get the answer they wanted and never post so much as a thank you.  The fact that a comment was posted by someone cleaning up a question I was active in months ago makes me rethink about contributing to the EE community.  Cheers for a hopefully good job :)

Regards,
Kevin
I've been away for a while, but If you'd like to send me a list......
AnnieMod,  If you still need volunteers feel free to send me an email with a range.  I have a problem with insomnia and am almost always up all night with spare time.

Regards,
Kevin
AnnieMod, I would like to take a cleanup range of about 50-70 questions.
AnnieMod,

Whichever area needs me most.
AnnieMod,  Sounds like a plan. - Cheers
>us111,

>Please take 01.1.2002 - 31.5.2002 including in PHP area. Thanks

>AnnieMod

I will do it after my vacations
AnnieMod,

I have finished that range.  I skipped a half dozen or so that I had posted comments in.  I'll take another range.  I'd prefer the PHP and Databases section, but I'll do main PHP if the other is covered.
AnnieMod,

I have finished that range.  In my previous post, I meant that I skipped questions in which I had previously participated.  I did go back and make some recommendations in those today.  No, I'm not posting comments, just recommendations.

I do notice that there are some questions repeated over and over again, things like "How do I make a drop down menu affect another drop down menu on the page, e.g. if user picks a state, then populate the next drop down menu with cities from that state?"  (I see that question in PHP, PHP and DB, HTML, JavaScript, MySQL ... I would guess it's also in VB, Web Languages, and a few other categories too.)  I know that there was some talk a year or two ago about getting the experts together to write up the best answer to those repeated questions and post them in a "Question Hall of Fame" someplace, so that when it gets asked again for the 300 millionth time, we can just post a link to the universal answer.  Has there been any progess on that idea?
Sure, I'll take another range.
AnnieMod, I completed my assigned range, 1/1/2003 to 2/28/2003 in PHP and Databases.
http://oldlook.experts-exchange.com/questions/20791558/PHP-and-Databases-Cleanup-due-to-14-Nov-2003.html

I won't be asking for another range as it sounds like i'll be busy with other stuff at EE by the end of November.. :-)
Hi AnnieMod
i'll  take a range in PHP, less than 50 questions please.
Annie,

I know I haven't done a lot lately but I'm still chugging along with my allocation - new years resolution to get more done!!

LornaJane
Annie, I still have to complete my assigned range (i'm missing 1 nov 2002 - 15 nov 2002), i'll be doing it in the next few days. Except that, I prefer keeping an eye open on all the current open questions..

should you renew the call for CVs?
> About renewing - let me decide when to do so :)

i was asking in fact, not proposing. :-)
AnnieMod,

Please reassign my current range.  I'm starting a new job and I can't be sure of having the time utnil I settle in.  I'll keep you posted if I can help out again in the future

LornaJane
How is cleanup going, need any help?
To the best of my knowledge, we are assigned dates.

Any topic that was made between those dates, and hasn't had any recent activity, is marked for cleanup. A standard message is posted there, with a recommendation.

The recommendation is then posted to Community_Support/Cleanup

Am I missing anything?
Hi

I tried 4 cleanups. I only did 4, because I want to be sure I'm doing it correctly before I do any more. Let me know if there is anything wrong.

BTW, what does FASTCAT FORMAT mean?
