Event id 9143.. I think binding order may be a problem

Hi there,

I'm getting this error on a domain controller at very regular intervals... Referral Interface cannot contact any Global Catalog that supports the NSPI Service. Clients making RFR requests will fail to connect until a Global Catalog becomes available again. After a Domain Controller is promoted to a Global Catalog, it must be rebooted to support MAPI Clients. EID 9143... I think it could be to do with the binding order of the 2 NICS???? Could it be and if so how do I change the binding order of them and what to?

Thanks

Chris

CAUSEIf the primary network adapter in a multihomed domain controller does not have file and printer sharing bound to it, multiple problems are logged or displayed when you attempt to work with Group Policy objects on the domain controller.

Windows 2000 is attempting to access its Sysvol share through the primary network adapter to read the group policies. Because the share is unavailable through that adapter, the operation does not work.
RESOLUTIONChange the binding order of the network adapters so that the adapter that is listed at the top of the Connections list has file and printer sharing bound to it:
Click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click Network and Dial-up Connections.
On the Advanced menu, click Advanced Settings.
In the Connections box, click the network adapter with "File and Printer Sharing" bound to it.
Click the arrow buttons on the right side to move the adapter to the top of the list.
Click OK.
After you fix the binding order of the two network adapter cards, you receive the following informational message in the Application event log:
Event Type: Information
Event Source: MSExchangeSA

I have now noticed that although the dc has 2 NICS only one is enabled and file and print sharing is already at the top of the list......... Any other ideas?
0
Rob StoneCommented:
Try enableing the other and binding the F&P sharing to it?

Other than that I'm out of ideas.

things are going well then :-z

Check the DNS records for the server and do the basic tests in DNS to see if they pass OK.

Under eventid.net at the top there is a search events link.  use that to help find some of the answers.  i'm not registered there but you can get a lot of info from them.

What tests would you suggest????
0
Rob StoneCommented:
Under the DNS Snap in right click on the server and go Properties > Monitoring and tick simple test and Test Now.

Also try the following:
CMD
NSLOOKUP {enter}
LS FQDN (ie, microsoft.com)

Check your default server too under nslookup and the address.

tekenqAuthor Commented:
Ok tried nslookup and I get

Can't find server name for address 192.*.*.*: Non existant domain
Default servers are not available
Default servers: Unknown
0
Rob StoneCommented:
Start the DNS configuration again.  Take a note of whats in there and create the new forward lookup's and reverse lookup pointers.

Let me know if you need a hand.
