ESENT Event Errors and usage of ESENTUTIL.EXE

We are having a Cryptographic problem with our XP Pro machines recently after some of the recent Windows patches.  The following is the error we recieve:

Catalog Database [1048] Unable to read the header of logfile C:\\WINDOWS\System32\CatRoot2\edb00002.log. Error -530

The Source is Event and the Category is Logging/Recovery.  I saw some information about esentutil.exe to try to fix but I can't figure out the syntax.  We tried the following:  esentutil /r /l"C:\WINDOWS\System32\Catroot2\edb00002.log"  .  It keeps coming back with Usage Error: Missing logfile base name specification. This affected a great deal of our laptops recently and other systems.

Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Try uninstalling the updates and check to see if that would solve

We tried that, it hung on the uninstallation.  The source breakage seems to have been on MS03-026 or KB823980.  That was the worm patch.

We are going to try to reinstall the patch while disabling Symantec.

We could not uninstall the patch 823980.  We are getting the Crytographic error.  Should we try to run Windows Update fullblown.

That was the trick.  Strange one to but it did stop the errors and allow the patch to work correctly.  Thanks!
