Active Synch 3.7 often cannot synch Outlook 2000 with ipaq PDA h1910.

After Win2kPro boot, before any other app is loaded, ipaq 1910 PDA running PocketPC on a USB link, invokes Active Sync 3.7 and 9 times out of 10, fails - unable to synchronize.  When it works it synchronizes calendar, ontacts,tasks, AND NOTES and may do so properly for several days.  Then it fails.  and rebooting desktop and/or PDA restart doesn't help.  

WHen it fails it only sees calendar,contacts,and tasks [missing notes] and flags them as attention required but then displays "Items of one or more info types can't be synched, reconnect your device.  To view all error msgs and dialog boxes, you must connect to this computer via infrared or serial/USB cable"  May stay in this state for repeated days after booting every morning.

The device synchronizes perfectly every time with my wife's PC where the partnership only synches calendar and contacts.  My wife's PC is also running Win2k and ActiveSynch 3.7.   I can't correlate failure with use of synching on her PC.   Have switched to a shorter 4 foot USB cable on my without any improvement.

Have considered upgrading my MS Outlook Outlook from 2000 t0 2003 but my Ipaq didn't come with 2003, only Outlook 2000 even though I bought it when Outlook 2003 was out.  When a worm made me reformat hard disk and reinstall MS2000 Pro, the erratic beganvior stopped for a few days, synching considtently for about a week, before reverting to unreliable synching.

Did you try uninstall and reinstall Active Sync ?

Before I do it again, and I expect it'll work, I remember months ago I ended up with many many dupes and spent a long time de-duping.
In a rush now,  Will add a comment tomorrow questioning how I can do a backup in case of tons of dupes and what I should do to avoid the dupes.  I can arrange it so all the data on the ODA should be believed if I could only zero out the desktop

For the dupes in thes contacts that's easy to correct a big part with :
TeamScope Outlook Data Scrubber  ( http://www.teamscope.com/otherpro/freeutil.asp )

For the Calandar I don't know the method you can use else than "by hands"...

I'll award the 500 points to close out the question and in appreciation of your time and fast responses.  I'll save the teamscope data scrubber ref in case I need it later.  

I don't know if its happenstance or if its because I ran scanpst.exe -- a tip I got off the knowledge base and had noted in my voluminous notes about active synch but had not remembered.  But in any case after running that and rebooting it synched properly so I'll try that when it next fails.

I'll post a new question asking how to delete all cal and contact info in a pst file next week.

you can create a new PST and simply copy your elements into it...

It's a good method if you think you'll have dupes, you can start with a brand new PST (keeping the old one )

Sync and restore all elements of your "old PST" in the new one... and everything will be synced from the computer...
