This article talks about adding a splash screen to your application.  It is pretty simple to do.

As Taitor says, this is called a splash screen. If you are developing with Microsoft Visual C++, then it can add one for you. If you are using version 6, then the following instructions should help. If you are using other versions, I'm sure you can still do it (I remember you could in version 5, not sure about VS.NET).

1) From the  Project menu, select Add To Project | Components and Controls
2) Browse to the folder Visual C++ Components
3) Double click "Splash Screen" in the list
4) Confirm that you wish to add the splash screen.

Hope this helps
