Hi,
I upgraded OS from XP home to XP Professional. I am now getting erros like "The Point to Point Protocol module C:\WINDOWS\System32\rastls.dll returned an error while initializing." and other relater errors too.
I tried to find some information but they were not complete in steps defined.
I would really appreaciate any help in this regards.
I am for more information listing all the errors below.

"The Control Protocol EAP in the Point to Point Protocol module C:\WINDOWS\System32\rasppp.dll returned an error while initializing. The request is not supported."
Thank you,

Well the error messages are posted with my original message I actually copied and pasted them over here. As far as the error ID I will have to check it since it is on my laptop at home and I am at work now....

ok, lets try to do somethings. it seems this error does not effect your normal operations and usage. how are those RAS related functions, such as dial-up to the internet or other computer, and VPN? works well or not? any exact error messages prompted?

I have problem of logging on to other computers on the network, I can map a drive but my remote desk top connection doest not work internet sometimes gives me errors and shuts down the browser window but the error is not reported, I do not work with VPN so cant comment on that. Moreover the IIS has issues as well for instance if I run some database queries like insert statements it gives me an error that the query is not updateable. I have set all the permissions appropriately.
Hope this helps.

>> I have problem of logging on to other computers on the network

how do you logon? please explain in steps, lets analyze if this relates to your PPP module issue.

>> I can map a drive but my remote desk top connection doest not work

what is "remote desk top connection"? like this: \\computername\remotedrivec\docs&settings\administrator\desktop?

>> internet sometimes gives me errors and shuts down the browser window but the error is not reported

after IE shutdown, nothing prompts?

>> Moreover the IIS has issues as well for instance if I run some database queries like insert statements it gives me an error that the query is not updateable.

the error was on-screen prompts, or saved in log file?

hehe, it looks your entire system has a lot of problems, try give us exact message as possbile as you can.

The loging is through the remote desk top connection....start>programs>accessories>communications>remote desk top connection.
Before the IE shuts down it says that there is an internal error and the browser will shut down, do you want to report the error to MS site ?...then it has two options send the error or dont send.
the IIS error is an onscreen prompt, like hte built in ASP error messages.
next time when I get the errors I will give you the exact message.
Thr main problem is the error message which pops up on the boot sequence, it says something like, "cannot run this function due to system being low on resources"

:( guess what? if you dont mind, i think you'd better reinstall your system, at least, install xp pro again over your current installation. umm, you may try reinstall IE6 at first. dont forget backup your important data (emails, biz files and personal info) before any such operations.

btw, you may think this is not a solution, but in fact, it is a relatively easy and efficient way to fix most mixed problematic system, especially on windows platforms. ;-))

hope it helps,

I still do not see a solution to this and the accepted answer is not a solution.  Any ideas?  I'm having this issue as well.

Hi,
Well the solution was to redo the operating system. I am sorry I chose the worng message to accept the answer. Moreover, I must update you on my situation too. I bought this new laptop from Dell with XP Home edition. Since I do some inhouse development, I wanted to get XP Prof, so I had simply upgraded it to the Prof version. To add to things I had to buy a docking station which is a third party hardware but is compatible with the laptop. So I am not really sure what is the cause of this problem.
But now I am not really concerned since I have made up my mind to redo the OS, cuz I am having other issues kicking in now.
Thanks

I'm not sure re-installing the OS is absolutely necessary.  I actually applied SP1 and that solved the problem for me.

As a general rule I never upgrade an OS to another OS but prefer to flatline and install the new OS on a clean computer but this time the customer was paying by the hour and didn't want to spend the extra time for me to do it right.

phutmacher, it depends on different situation, case by case. commonly, for a system mixed with many problems, probably re-installing OS is a good choice; but for some constraints such as restoring all applications, you have to choose upgrade.

heres my 2 cents.....there are certain errors which are caught but the error message displayed is not exactly reflecting the cause of error. If time is not a constraint, new installation is the only answer.
Moreover, I have found that by just backing up the files and doing a clean install is a faster approach but agian it all depende on the situaiton really.
Happy Hoildays
